A new breed of Football Coach
25th November 2007
Given the recent failure of the England team to qualify for the 2008 European Championships and subsequently dropping out of the 'seeded' teams for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Steve McLaren lost his position as manager of the national team! So what needs to be done to revitalise a team full of obvious talent? Is the solution a foreign coach? At present the crop of English managers available have not got the proven record to warrant the role, but surely this is not the case for the future? The coaches that we are looking to; Mourinho for one, are very forward thinking and great users of sports science and new techniques - but how can we shape the new coaches to embrace the future and be constantly open to anything that will give them the edge over others. We at train1on1 hope that you as coaches are have this mindset as you coach and who knows; we may see you managing a great team of the future!

Train1on1 supports Week of Action against racism
11th October 2006
Many footballing communities across the country will come together this month to welcome the Kick it Out Week of Action which will run from 17th to 30th October. The Kick it Out Week of Action was launched yesterday at the House of Lords and is now a firm fixture in the sporting calendar and one of the most prominent anti-racism initiatives in the country. Under the banner 'One Game, One Community' the Kick it Out Week of Action will celebrate the contribution made to football by black, Asian and other ethnic minorities, whilst continuing the call to challenge racism. This year many of the games biggest names including John Terry, Chelsea and England Captain, will stand alongside the many footballing communities throughout the UK and will welcome grassroots clubs, schools, community groups and fans to come together for an extended week of symbolic activities promoting inclusion and celebrating diversity. Train1on1 challenges everybody in the world of football to unite through ‘football’ and to welcome all to take part in whatever training, games and social events are going on in your area. This is not just about awareness – it is called ‘Week of Action’ for a reason, so be active in what you do and stand up for unification. Last year, more than 700 events took place during the Week of Action, including an anti-racism match day at all 92 professional clubs in England and Wales. Richard Caldwell, managing director of train1on1 believes that ‘the Kick it Out Week of Action is a good way of using the ever increasing popularity of football in the UK to make a stand against racism and celebrate the contribution made by people of all races, cultures and beliefs. We hope that the Week of Action will continue to raise awareness of the diversity we can now celebrate within our national game and by building partnerships with groups who may feel excluded from the game we can help mould the players of the future.’ To find out more about Kick it Out or to discover what events are taking place in your local area visit www.kickitout.org.
Sports stars giving back to the community
29th September 2006
It is well publicised that the money involved in soccer today defies belief. As the interest in soccer continues to grow so does the money involved in the game, therefore it is important, train1on1 feels, that some of this money is reinvested at grassroots level where the stars of the future are born. Frank Lampard of UK premiership club Chelsea FC has recently launched a new scheme in London to offer children with Emotional Behavioural Difficulties access to new soccer facilities. Richard Caldwell, managing director of train1on1 feels that ‘people like Lampard are role models to the youth of today and it is very refreshing to see that players are giving something back to the community in which they once grew up in and helping our youth gain access to the right coach and facilities so that they can too excel in the game.’
